Splat3D is live: turn any video into a 3D scene
Today I'm proud to launch the beta of Splat3D: a simple, fast way to create Gaussian Splats without an NVIDIA GPU.
How I got here
I first became interested in Gaussian Splatting last Fall when I saw the Apple ML Sharp paper and demo. The results blew me away, and I tried to replicate them on my own hardware. There was no easy way to run the pipeline locally and share the results, so I started building a site where I could. That rabbit hole eventually became Splat3D.
The site started as a "single photo → splat" pipeline inspired by ML-Sharp's ease of use, but after testing it I hit a wall of limitations for real-world use. I started looking into training full splats from videos, and learning about SfM and how Gaussian Splatting works under the hood. I got frustrated at having to run SfM and the splat training as separate steps, and impatient with my wimpy 3070ti's multi-hour training time for even simple captures off my iPhone. So I pivoted Splat3D into a full video→SfM→splat→render platform: something easy to use and fine-tune without waiting around forever. The backend pipeline runs on Modal GPUs (thanks to the Modal team for the starting credits).
There are good alternatives in this space like Lichtfeld, Postshot, and Brush, but all of them rely on local GPU hardware, which most people (myself included) don't have a ton of. Big thanks to those projects regardless; Splat3D wouldn't be possible without them or the wider Gaussian Splat community. Special thanks to the folks on /r/gaussiansplatting who helped test the site and shared early feedback.
What you get
The result is a site that turns a 30-60 second iPhone video into a high-quality splat in under 10 minutes, ready to share, embed, or export. LiDAR upload support is on the way, which will make things even faster. The site also handles DSLR and mirrorless photo sets as well as standard video formats. Drone and 360 camera support are works in progress. (P.S. if you have those kinds of captures, please reach out via Discord or email hello@splat-3d.com.)
I also exposed the pipeline as an API: the one I wish I'd had when I started this project, so others can build Splat3D into their own products. Check out the API docs if you're interested.
Try it
Splat3D is in beta. Every account gets 100 free credits (about five Standard-tier scenes). No card or account required to try it.
- Make your first scene: splat-3d.com/upload
- Build with it: docs.splat-3d.com
- Join the community: Discord. I'm usually around as @zeke and try to respond quickly.
If you find a bug or have a feature idea, please share it on the Discord. Your feedback shapes what we build next.
A deeper write-up on the pipeline internals (GLOMAP, gsplat on H100s, SOG compression, and why phone capture is the hard part) is coming soon. Follow along on the blog or via RSS.
